Student-Focused, Future-Ready

Based on facility assessments, expert analysis, and extensive community input, the District is proposing to build a new Middle School.

Building a new Middle School will create a modern learning environment that meets today’s needs and prepares students for the future.

  • A new design will provide a purposeful layout for middle school education. It will feature a “small school community” through grade-specific classrooms and learning areas that support personalized learning, collaboration, and belonging.

  • A new building will enhance accessibility, safety, and security.

  • A flexible design will allow the District to more easily adapt to educational programming, social-emotional interventions and support, and activities that enhance student learning and growth.

  • The new infrastructure will reduce energy use and maintenance costs.

  • A new building will serve our community for generations.

Parents and guardians, staff, and residents who provided input into this process believe that a new Middle School is the best option for Abington School District.

On May 20, Abington School District will ask Abington Township and Borough of Rockledge residents to vote on a $285 million bond to build a new Middle School.

  • Purposeful Design: A “small school” community to support personalized learning and a sense of belonging.

  • Future-Ready Spaces: Flexible spaces that can adapt to evolving educational programs, student needs, and growing enrollment.

  • Bright Classrooms: Increased natural light for a more welcoming learning environment.

  • Healthy Climate: Improved airflow and ventilation.

  • Equitable Access: Fully accessible and ADA-compliant design to ensure an inclusive experience for all students.

  • Modern Security: State-of-the-art safety features for a secure learning space.

  • Collaborative Areas: Common areas and large group spaces to foster collaboration and community.

  • Enriched Activities: Enhanced athletic and performing arts spaces for student activities during and after school.

  • Improved Visibility: Wider hallways and stairwells to improve student traffic flow and optimize sightlines for easier monitoring.

  • Energy Efficiency: Sustainable systems to reduce energy use and maintenance costs.

  • Outdoor Spaces: Establishment of outdoor areas for student lunch periods.

  • Traffic Management: Redesign of roadways and parking lots for smoother and safer student pick-up and drop-off.

Key Benefits of a New Middle School

The design of the new school will involve teachers, staff, parents and guardians, students and the community to reflect the community’s values and educational goals.

Minimizing Disruptions to Students

Building a new Middle School avoids disrupting student education during a multi-year construction process. A renovation project would mean relocating students and teachers to areas of the building not under construction, or using modular classrooms during construction; building a new school allows students to continue learning in the current Middle School until the new one is completed.
